There are a lot of possible answers to your question depending upon what aspect you wish to know. Let me put up some basic points as answer to your question Academics:- IISc is easily one of the best academic institutes in the country . You choose any discipline to compare and IISc would land up in top 3 slots in the country , if not the best every time. Sports:- Sports in itself is not a strong suit of IISc. You can always keep a particular game as a hobby but if you want to do something big in that sport, IISc is not just the place to be. Freedom:- IISc offers you a lot of freedom. Freedom in exploring hobbies, research interests, in voicing your opinion and in mixing up with different genders. You can join any club, any sports group or any other activities group and no one would bat an eye Campus :- IISc has one of the most beautiful campus in the country. There are varieties of trees that you can find only over here. The campus is lush green , has ample open areas and no

IISc Bangalore is a best place for Education and Research.I would be happy if I get a chance to pursue my higher education. It's not easy to get into IISc ,if we are engineering students then we have to write All India level Gate Exam and score rank within 100 or 200. This is the top ranked 1 Institute in India. You will be valued more, if you are from IISc or IIT. Even after PU(Class 12), one can join IISc by writing exam of IISc and should have qualified in any exams like KVPY,AIPMT,etc It will be a awesome place only if we are interested in science , technology and engineering. IISc is spread over many acres and the place is very eco-friendly.IISc campus is so big,u will get lost in the place if you are new to the place. IISc Open day will be awesome, every year I wait for this event. Its a Science ,technology and Engineering exhibition where IISc students will come up with Projects .Some are innovative project. One day is not enough for you to enjoy knowledge a

Thanks for A2A. Though I'm a PhD here, I've interacted with enough undergrads to answer this. Social life is mostly abysmal for undergraduate students here. This is in respect with IITs since that is the only reference I am aware of and most people who join IISc for undergrads, probably also had the opportunity of joining an IIT. There is no hostel culture, the number of undergrads in a given year is a paltry 100, there is no internet in hostel rooms and hence no LAN gaming or DC++. Sports facilities are nothing great, the swimming pool is nice though. There is a Dram club and a music club with some activity, but the noise they make is little to say the least. The student council here has absolutely no power and almost reminds me of Manmohan Singh. So not too much scope for those interested in college politics either. One plus point, is that there are a lot of females on the campus, and the gender skewing is thankfully not as bad as in the IITs which has historically lead to socially i

Life at IISc, or rather any other institute, for that matter depends a lot on what you make out of it. It can be extremely happening or terribly dull or both depending on the phase you are in during your stay here. Since its a pretty broad question I will try summarizing my answer as briefly as possible. I have been here for little over an year and here is how my life at IISc was. To begin with, the campus is really beautiful and mesmerizing. It doesn’t take much time for you to fall in love with it. Settling in, hence becomes a little easier. Next comes hostel and mess. The new hostels are pretty good and comfortable and for mess, you have an option between 4 different types of meals(South Indian veg and non veg; and North Indian veg and non veg). Regardless of how attractive you find the mess menu at first, you are bound to get bored of the taste eventually. But not to worry, because, food delivery boys are very well acquainted with the campus and you can have food del
