Mineral Processing
Mineral processing, art of treating crude ores and mineral products in order to separate the valuable minerals from the waste rock, or gangue. It is the first process that most ores undergo after mining in order to provide a more concentrated material for the procedures of extractive metallurgy.
Extractive Metallurgy
Extractive metallurgy is the practice of removing valuable metals from an ore and refining the extracted raw metals into a purer form. Hydrometallurgy uses aqueous solutions to extract metals from ores (leaching). Pyrometallurgy involves high temperature processes where chemical reactions take place.
Materials Engineering
Materials engineers create and study materials at the atomic level. They use computers to understand and model the characteristics of materials and their components. They solve problems in several different engineering fields, such as mechanical, chemical, electrical, civil, nuclear, and aerospace.
