Description

COLLEGE NAME: Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Near Fountain Chowk, City Centre road, Yamuna Nagar-135 001 (Haryana).

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Initially named after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, ninth Guru of the Sikhs, this institution started out as Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa (Evening) College in 1973. After securing the approval to start M. Com. Course in academic year 1988-89, it was called Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa Post-Graduate (Evening) College. In the academic year 2005-06, the college was converted into a full-fledged day college and renamed Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College after the first Sikh Guru. A constituent college of the University of Delhi, the college is now registered under Section 2f and 12B of the UGC Act 1956, and is managed by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee – the parent body, that takes pride in managing quality educational institutions. The institution has completed more than 40 years of exemplary service in the field of education.

Since its inception the College has been constantly striving to achieve academic excellence coupled with all-round development of its students. Inspired by the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who demolished many false beliefs to show the world a modern way of life, the college has also endeavoured to inculcate a spirit of scientific temper along with the values of spiritualism and truthfulness. It aims to build the character of its students by following the tenets of “kirt karna, naam japna and vand chhakna” and “maanas ki jaat sabhai ekai pehchanbo,”i.e. doing one’s duty, remembering God and sharing the fruits of one’s labour with less fortunates; thus, we promote a culture of equality and strive to keep pace with a constantly evolving world while disseminating formal education to help students achieve their full potential as budding professionals. One such example of internalizing Guru’s teachings can be found in the sacrifice of one of our most notable student, Captain Vijayant Thapar, who gave the supreme sacrifice and laid down his life in the Kargil War to protect his motherland. He was posthumously awarded Vir Chakra for his bravery.

The college has about 2000 students on its rolls in the various courses that are offered. It has been regularly delivering university position-holders and producing outstanding sportsmen of national fame. Art and Culture Society of the college has been creating ripples within the cultural landscape of the university and is today acknowledged as a force to reckon with. Various other student-societies along with NSS and NCC wings of the college, are actively engaging students with community work such as consumer awareness, financial literacy, educating the under-privileged sections of society, as well as social work in the slums.

 OUR VISION:

To be an educational institution of repute dedicated to academic excellence, with a humane face contributing to social transformation through improvement in the quality of life.

The College believes in imparting education to young evolving minds by empowering them through capacity-building, enabling them to think, imagine, analyse, assess and express themselves through various activities.
