ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

It was the year 1973 which witnessed a new dawn in the era of women education, when the great visionary and philanthropist, Pandit Sant Nischal Singh ji Maharaj laid the foundation stone of Guru Nanak Girls College. His dream of liberating women from the clutches of illiteracy has blossomed into a beautiful reality in the shape of this institution. This reality manifests itself in the form of those confident, educated and successful women who began their flights of dreams from GNG and who today are scaling new heights of success in the various fields.

The Managing Committee of Guru Nanak Girls College is strengthened and motivated at every step by the pious vision of its founder, Pandit Sant Nischal Singh Ji who dreamt of equipping the daughters of nation with the armour of education so as to make them self-reliant, confident, ethical and progressive individuals who endeavours to surge towards the glorious historical watersheds of humanism, spirituality and professional success.

By ensuring a value based quality education to women, we envision a brighter future where a woman in her multiple roles as a daughter, sister, wife & mother will become a harbinger of positive changes in the society.

Adding another feather to its cap, the college won “Best Women College of the Year” Trophy in 2008. Objectives of the college are:

  1. To impart quality education in various streams and to cater to the need of skill-based learning through vocational courses.
  2. To inculcate amongst students the values of tolerance, equality, selfless service (SEWA) and charity.
  3. To foreground the need and value of ethics so as to instill a sense of social responsibility and true success amongst students.
  4. To sensitize the students about current social concerns, human rights, communal harmony and environmental conservation.
  5. To create intellectually sharp, professionally competent and ethically strong individuals who become an asset to the society.

The college has a fleet of 11 buses to bring students from the areas within a radius of 55kms. By providing easy and affordable conveyance to rural girls, we try to inch closer to our founder’s dream of making education accessible to the rural folk. We have a highly qualified, experienced and diligent staff who act like mentors to the students and who consistently imbibe new methodologies in their teaching so as to make it student friendly.

Free text books are provided to the meritorious and needy students for the whole session. Carrying forward the philanthropic mission, we collect a staff fund each year with a purpose to pay fees of the needy students. Besides this, many scholarships/stipends are available to the students. “Earn While You learn Scheme” is also available to the needy students.

The college organizes both academic and excursion trips for the students. Placement cell of the college takes them to job fests and counsels them about the career opportunities.

The college has fully furnished labs. Teachers make sure that the students imbibe practical knowledge of the subjects. There are three Computer labs, a studio and an editing lab, Dept. of Science has laboratories of Botany, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology and Biochemistry. The Dept. of Home Science has a Food & Nutrition lab, a Clothing & Textile lab and a cafeteria. There are two labs for Music –Instrumental and Vocal. A well equipped Language lab is used to develop English Communication Skills of students. There is a centrally air conditioned auditorium, a Seminar Hall with audio-visual facilities and a well stacked library which houses some rare books of divinity and some rare manuscripts.

Campus II of the college is at the walking distance and has a modern day Conference Hall equipped with audio-visual aids.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Eligibility For Admission At Undergraduate Level

Bachelor of Arts Honours:

A person who has passed Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained 50% marks in the aggregate or 50% marks in the subject offered for the honours course shall be eligible to join the first years class of B. A. Honours.

Bachelor of Arts (Pass Course):

Students shall be eligible to join First year class who has passed Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 33% marks.

B.A. Mass Communication:

Students shall be eligible to join First year class who has passed Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 50% marks.

Bachelor of Commerce & BBA:

Students shall be eligible to join First year class who has passed Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 40% marks for Commerce student and 50% marks for non-Commerce student.

Bachelor of Science (Medical & Non-Medical):

Students shall be eligible to join First Year Class who have passed PCM for Non-Medical Group and PCB for Medical Group of Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 40% marks

B.Sc. Computer Science:

Students shall be eligible to join First Year Class who have passed PCM of Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 40% marks.

Bachelor of Honours I.T.:

A student who has passed 10+2 (Non-Medical) Examination from Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 45% marks.

B.Sc. Multimedia:

A student shall be eligible to join the first year of B.Sc. Multimedia who has passed 10+2 Examination (any stream) with 45% marks with five subjects and English as one of the subject from Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination.

B.C.A. :

A candidate admission in BCA course must have passed 10+2 examination from Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination, with 50% in aggregate with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

B.Sc. Home Science:

A student who has passed 10+2 Examination from Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination (any stream) with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 40% marks.

B.Sc. Fashion Designing:

A student who has passed 10+2 Examination from Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination (any stream) with English as one of the subjects and has also obtained in aggregate at least 40% marks.

Eligibility for UGC Approved B.Voc. Courses

10+2 with 40% marks in any stream are eligible for admission.

Eligibility for SC students:

Minimum pass marks required for admission in any stream. The candidate shall be required to submit cast certificate at the time of admission.

Eligibility for Compartment students:

Student who has been placed under compartment or allowed to reappear in one subject in Senior Certificate Examination (10+2) OF Board of School Education, Haryana, or an equivalent examination and also obtained in aggregate prescribed percentage of marks for the concerned course may be allowed provisionally to join the concern course subject to her qualifying the deficit subject and submit the proof of passing of 10+2 examination by 31st December of the year failing which her provisional admission shall be cancelled and she shall not be allowed to attend the classes from Ist January onwards.
