ABOUT

The Bengal Music College was established in the year 1940 by the selfless service of the founder Principal Late Nanigopal Bandyopadhyay and valuable services of Late Manindra Chandra Chakraborty and Late Kshitish Chandra Bandyopadhyay.

In the year 1956 Bengal Music College was affiliated to the University of Calcutta under the initiation of the founder Principal Late N.G. Bandyopadhyay. B. Mus. (Pass) and music as Elective subject of B.A. / B.Sc. Degree course have been continuing for the last five decades.

This College has distinguished itself as a pioneer in the field of music education in West Bengal. The record of its development now spans over a few decades during which a potent concept had considerable impact on the educational & cultural life of West Bengal and the college showed a spectacular progress in the field of teaching music overcoming all the advertise and problems.

The faculty council for Undergraduate studies in fine Arts, Music and Home Science of the University of Calcutta accorded permission to introduce a 3 year Honours Degree course in this College from the academic session 1995-96.

The Faculty Council for Postgraduate Studies in Fine Arts, Music and Home Science of the University of Calcutta accorded permission to introduce Master of Music Course in this College from the academic session 2003-2004.

The authority of the University permitted this College to start Research Work in Music from the academic session 2009-2010.

 

Bachelor of Music 

  1. A candidate who has passed the H.S. (10+2) examination or its equivalent examination is eligible to seek admission to the 1 st year of the 3-year B.Mus. (Hons.Gen.) Courses of studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks of not being less than 100.
  2. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in Compulsory Environmental Education/Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate of marks if the subject Environmental Science is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.
  3. Candidates taking up an Honours Course in a Subject must have obtained.

(i) A minimum of 45% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.

Or

(ii) 50% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.

 

Or

(iii) 45% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied, on the basis of the selection test.

  1. However, Candidates belonging to the Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe community taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.
  2. MUSIC AS ONE OF THE COMBINATION (GENERAL) SUBJECT is offered to the desired Candidates of B.A./B.Sc. degree course of any College affiliated to the Calcutta University.

 

Master of Music 

Two year M. Mus. Course

Any candidate who has passed the B.Mus. Examination with Honours or B.A./ B.Sc. Examination with Honours in any subject along with Music as an Elective General subject from this university or from any other Institution recognized by this university may be admitted to the M.Mus. Course.

Or

Any candidate who has passed the B.A./B.Sc./B.com. Examination with Honours in any subject from this University or from any other Institution recognized by this University, but did not have Music as Elective subject at the degree level may be admitted to the M.Mus. Course on the basis of a test held by the College authority for the purpose.

Or

Any candidate who has passed the B.Mus. Examination without Honours from this University or from any other Institution recognized by this University may be admitted to the M.Mus. Course on the basis of a test held by the College authority for the purpose.

Or

Any candidate who has passed the M.A. Examination in any subject from this University or any other Institution recognized by this University may be admitted to the M.Mus. Course on the basis of test held by the College authority for the purpose
