This college is the first Muslim Minority (Co-Education) General Degree College under Article 30 of the Constitution of India. It has been affiliated to the University of Calcutta since 2007. It came under section 2f of the UGC Act, 1956, hence the Degrees and certificates are valid and as good as the degrees and certificates of other colleges under University of Calcutta. In fact the degrees are awarded to the students of this college by the University of Calcutta. The college has been awarded Minority status by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, Government of India. Although it is a Minority college, students from both minority and non-minority communities study here. The salient features of the college is that it is totally free from any political organisation of ulterior motive.Girls feel safe and secured to study here. The aim of the college is to bring the minority muslim community to the main stream of higher education together with preserving their religion and culture, simultaneously giving entry of the non-minority students to education.
The college is a government aided institution. The students get different types of government scholarships and stipends like minority scholarships, OBC scholarships, SC/ST stipends, Kanyashree and other welfare programmes of the State Government.
