Legal education in this country, even after Independence, has failed to give any place of importance in its scheme to the history and philosophy of Indian Legal Thought in the field of Law and Jurisprudence. The system has been under the influence of not merely of the ideas, concepts and institutions but also of a Legal Philosophy borrowed from the West, to the total neglect and disregard of indigenous ideas and values as if India of the past did not and could not contribute anything worthy of the recognition and acceptance towards the field of Legal Thought – an assumption for which there does not seem to be any warrant. The conceptualization and establishment of the School Of Indian Legal Thought by the University is a positive response to the long felt need to remove such an attitude of neglect and is an expression of a commitment to restore the Indian Legal Thought and values and their legitimate place in the country’s system of Legal Education.
Our Objectives and Future Plans
