IIT Hyderabad is one of the fastest growing IIT. Being in one of the biggest industrial cities of India is a huge advantage. There's a great deal of flexibility in designing of curriculum. New concepts like Fractal Academics(short term courses), fractional credit courses(Photojournalism, FilmMaking & courses offered by industry experts) and interdisciplinary branches such as Engineering Science are on offer, Minor in entrepreneurship. Being in a metropolitan city with huge number of research centers, labs and MNCs it has an edge over other IITs/NITs located in smaller towns. IITH can be considered a one of the best. For sure THE best among new IITs and comparable (or better in some aspects) with few old IITs like IIT Guwahati and IIT Rooraki. This eight-year-old Institute was ranked the seventh best institution to study engineering in India in The ‘India Rankings 2016’ by MHRD, enen above IIT Guwahati. In IITH, ratio of students to permanent faculty is pretty good. Faculties are very supportive and open to all research ideas. Student preference is also growing day by day. CSE and EE closing ranks are comparable to some of the old IITs.
Some stats and facts @ IITH (by jan2017)
IITH has 934 publications, 15 patents led, and over 238 sponsored projects and consultancy projects.
Nearly 80% faculty have sponsored projects.

IITH has nearly Rupees 137 Crores in sponsored research funding and nearly 15 Crores of industrial research and consultancy.
IITH has 105 laboratories for teaching, teaching plus research, and for only research.
Very active collaboration with Japan in research, academics and infrastructure development
IITH has launched its technology incubator and 4 companies have already been incubated.
14 Departments covering all major engineering, science and humanities.
More than 1850 students and 171 full time faculty.

Way away from the actual city (2 hrs from station). Not so well developed infrastructure since it’s in process only (hostels are good though) Little dusty environment (too hot in summer). Cafeteria canteen closes too early, you won’t find anything to eat after 10.30pm. Little regionalism. Especially at election times, campaigning goes like south indian vs north indian.
