Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya is a promising Co-educational premier institution in North- East India offering courses of study in both Arts and Science streams. The College is located at Kenduguri, 3 km. east of Jorhat city centre and is well linked by NH-37 as well as by the Assam Trunk Road. The college was established in 1981 with the noble objective of meeting the needs of higher education of a large locality, quite a number of who belong to the rural and economically weak background. The College is permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University. The Arts Stream of the college was brought under the deficit grants-in aid ystem from January 11, 1996. Spurred by the mterest of students, the Science Stream was introduced from the academic session 1991-92. The College offers courses in Arts and Science at the undergraduate level and semester courses for fourteen subjects with thirteen options for Major. In parallel with the introduction of the Semester system by the University from 2011- 2012, the College has introduced BA and M.A in the Distance mode to enable employed students or students who are unable to pursue regular courses for different reasons an opportunity for higher education.The College also provides Vocational Courses and Skill development programmes from time to time in relevant areas. Catering to the development of students and keeping in mind the competitive scenario of the job market the College facilitates career guidance, personal counseling and coaching for entrance examinations. From the academic session 2015, the Tea Plantation and Management Course has been introduced under Community College Scheme sponsored by UGC and from the Academic Session 2017-18, College introduced the UGC sponsored 3 year Bachelor of Vocational Course (B.Voc) in Small Tea Garden Management. In recognition of the immense potential among students for cultural art forms, the College proposes to introduce a department on Performing Arts that would provide a much needed platform for aspiring students who merge into anonymity without any recognition of their talents once they step out of their College life. Such innovative ventures place the students right at the heart of the institution’s life and activity. There exists an atmosphere of cordial relationship between the students and teachers in the College. Apart from academic pursuits, stress is laid on co- curricular activities and all round development of the students’ personality. Special attention is paid to the students coming from backward and marginalized sections of society whose welfare was on the top of the agenda when the College was established. The College has a well equipped library, which is supervised and managed by a qualified Librarian. The Library is fully digitalized. Photocopier machine and computers with Internet facilities are available in the College Library. For the benefit of students from economically weaker backgrounds the College has been providing the facility of a Book Bank from the academic session 2011-12. Set in a campus with greenery of trees, beautiful flower gardens, well positioned decorative flower pots, the College boasts of its scenic beauty and pleasing environment that provides a breather from the noisy atmosphere of the city. What had started as a humble effort to spread the light of higher education amongst the locality and its neighboring areas has now flowered in to an institution of repute rendering quality education to students from different parts of Assam. With a staff strength of 70 (Teaching and Support) Staff, and over 1500 students, Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya has certainly grown in stature over the years. Since its establishment, the College has come a long way in meeting the emerging needs and challenges of the present day scenario.

Jorhat kendriya Mahavidyalaya, a premier provincialized institution in the state of Assam is situated at Kenduguri, 3km. East of jorhat city Centre. The college was established in the year 1981 and meets higher education needs of a larger locality from Jorhatto Kakojan in the east and up to Neamati Ghat in the north. The College is well linked by transportation as it is situated on the Assam Trunk Road.The Arts Stream was brought under the Deficit System of Grants -in- Aid from January 11, 1996. Encouraged by the academic pursuit, the Science stream was introduced from the academic session 1991-92. Keeping abreast with the present competitive scenario al year Certificate Course on Computer Application has been introduced from the session 2008-09. Besides, Self-Financing Vocational Courses in Spoken English and cutting & Embroidery Courses etc. have also been introduced. With the introduction of the Semester System in the college from 2011-2012, the College has also started BA (Distance Education) under Dibrugarh University from the very same session. This will enable those students who are unable to comply with the strict regulations of the Semester system to obtain their graduation under the Distance Education course.

Thus, the Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya is not just a seat of advance learning, but it also provides learning facilities and opportunities for the economically and socially backward students. It serves as a means of socializing the ethos of Indian nationalism and integrations among the learners and the people of the surrounding locality.

The aims and objectives of the college are :

a)To raise the academic and moral aspects of the students in order to build up as well as mould a national character.

b)To raise the socio-economics aspects of the community in the surrounding rural areas.

c)The result of the College in the Higher Secondary and Degree examination of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and Dibrugarh University respectively have all along been remarkable. The college has also been accredited by NAAC and awarded Grade B in the year 2004.

The College has been able to earn reputation in other spheres too. The N.C.C (Girls) Cadets of the College have been displaying their attainments at various camps in National and State level and getting appreciation. The College Library is rich in its collections of selected books besides numbers of text books and reference books. There are also departmental libraries in every department for further convenience of the students. For the benefit of the financially weak students, the College has also introduced the facility of a Book Bank from the academic session 2011-12. Moreover, each Department is provided a computer with internet and networking facilities.



 The date of interview cum admission into HS and Degree classes are notified through local dailies immediately after the declaration of results. Admission schedules are also notified through the college notice board and College website –

➢ Admission forms issued by the College will have to be duly filled-up and submitted within the specified date notified in news papers, the college notice board and website.

➢ The admission form scan be downloaded from the College websit – and the duly filled forms may be submitted with a demand draft of Rs. 150/- drawn in favour of Principal, Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, Kenduguri, Jorhat-10 (Assam).Online submissions of forms are also possible by the payment of Rs. 150 through a demand draft in favour of Principal, Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya.

➢ Students must submit attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of the last examination passed along with their applications. Original mark sheets, certificates etc. will have to be produced at the time of admission. For those opting for online submission, during the time of admission they must submit attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of the last examination passed and also produce the originals for verification.

➢ The names of selected students will be announced two days before admission and he or she will have to appear before a panel of selection committee for document verification where they will have to produce the relevant original documents specified in the application form.

➢ Students intending to study a major course will have to specify option at most in two subjects filling the space marked in the admission form. They will have to appear a screening test or viva-voce in a date notified before admission. This test or viva voce will be arranged by the departments. Therefore, the students are advised to communicate with the respective departments before their admission

➢ Selection will be made on the basis of merit/performance in the screening test/viva voce. However, there is reservation of seats as per State Government rules (as shown below).

➢ Irregular students seeking admission must submit affidavit along with application forms for the gap period.

➢ Incomplete application forms will be treated as cancelled.
