Behala College was established in 1963 with the primary objective to spread education among the students, whose families were displaced from East Pakistan and were rehabilitated in the vicinity of Parnashree Pally in Behala. The college is conveniently located in the south-western part of Kolkata and is 12.5 km from Howrah station (40 mins), 28 kms from Dumdum Airport (1 hr), 12 kms from Sealdah station (45 mins), 10 kms from Esplanade bus stand (35 mins).
The motto of the college is “Nishi din Alok shikha Jwaluk Prane”, which has been deduced from the lines of a famous song by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. It means ‘Let the flame of light be kindled eternally’.
Behala College presently caters to a wide array of students, coming from far and wide, from other districts as well. This is perhaps a testimony to the earnest endeavour of the college to provide quality education and strive for improving its services each day.
